- Active Truth
To thrive in the Bible as we believe in the absolute truth of Scripture working individually and collectively as the family of God in making the application of the Word of God to our daily lives by putting it into practice, preaching and teaching the Scripture through interactive Bible studies, small group and age specific discipleship classes and our multiple worship services.

Our detailed vision is provided for you with a more in depth perspective.
What we believe is very significant in explaining who we are in Christ. Please understand that our desire is to cling to our distinctives in one hand and cling to the Body of Christ in the other hand while we work together to win this world for Jesus.
The human phraseology employed in this statement is not inspired nor contended for, but the truth set forth is held to be essential to this ministry. No claim is made that it contains all truth in the Bible, only that it covers our present needs as to these fundamental matters.
- THE SCRIPTURES INSPIRED
The Bible is the inspired Word of God, a revelation from God to man, the infallible rule of faith and conduct, and is superior to conscience and reason, but not contrary to reason. (II Timothy 3:16-17; I Peter 1:23-25; Hebrews 4:12)
- THE ONE TRUE GOD
The one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self- existent, self-revealed "I AM;" and has further revealed Himself as embodying the principles of relationship and association, i.e., as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29; Isaiah 43:10-11; Matthew 28:19)
- THE DEITY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
- His virgin birth. (Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:31, 35)
- His sinless life. (Hebrews 7:26; I Peter 2:22)
- His miracles. (Acts 2:22; 10:38)
- His substitutionary work on the cross. (I Corinthians 15:3; II Corinthians 5:21)
- His bodily resurrection from the dead. (Matthew 28:6; Luke 24:39; I Corinthians 15:4)
- His exaltation to the right hand of God. (Acts 1:9, 11; 2:33; Philippians 2:9-11; Hebrews 1-3)
- MAN'S FALL AND REDEMPTION
Man was created good, and upright, for God said, "Let us make man in Our image and after Our likeness." But man, by voluntary transgression, fell and his only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. (Genesis 1:26-31; 3:17; Romans 5:12-21)
- THE SALVATION OF MAN
- Conditions to Salvation
The grace of God, which brings salvation, has appeared to all men, through the preaching of repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. Man is saved by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost, and, being justified by grace through faith, he may become an heir of God according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 2:11; Romans 10:13-15; Luke 24:47; Titus 3:5-7)
- Evidences of Salvation
The inward evidence to the believer of salvation is the direct witness of the Spirit (Romans 8:16). The outward evidence to all men is a life of righteousness and true holiness.
- ORDINANCES OF THE CHURCH
- Baptism in Water
The ordinance of Baptism by symbolic burial with Christ in the waters of baptism should be observed as commanded in the Scriptures, by all who have really repented and in their hearts have truly believed on Christ as Saviour and Lord. In so doing, they declare to the world that they have died with Jesus and that they have also been raised with Him to walk in newness of life. (Matthew 28:19; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:4)
- The Lord's Supper
The Lord's Supper, consisting of the elements, bread and the fruit of the vine, is the symbol expressing our sharing the Divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ; a memorial to His suffering and death; a prophecy of His soon return; and is enjoined on all believers "until He comes." (John 6:48-57; Luke 22:19-20; II Peter 1:4; I Corinthians 11:26)
- THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER
All believers are entitled to, and should ardently expect, and earnestly seek, the promise of the Father, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. With it comes the enduement of power for life and service, the bestowal of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry. (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8; I Corinthians 12:1-31) This wonderful experience is distinct from and subsequent to the experience of the New Birth. (Acts 2:38; Acts 10:44-46; 11:14-16; 15:7-9)
- THE EVIDENCE OF THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
The full consummation of the Baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is historically evidenced by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance; and by the subsequent manifestation of the spiritual power in public testimony and service. (Acts 2:4; 10:44-46; 19:2-6; 1:8; 2:42-42)
- ENTIRE SANCTIFICATION
The Scriptures teach a life of holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are able to obey the command, "Be ye holy, for I am holy." Entire sanctification is the will of God for all believers, and should be earnestly pursued by walking in obedience to God's Word. (Hebrews 12:14; I Peter 1:15-16; I Thessalonians 5:23-24; I John 2:6; Romans 6:1-11, 13; 8:1, 2, 13)
- THE CHURCH
The Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of The Great Commission. Each believer, born of the spirit, is an integral part of the "general assembly and the church of the first-born." (Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23)
- THE MINISTRY AND EVANGELISM
A divinely called and Scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for a two-fold purpose: (1) The evangelization of the world; and (2) the edifying of the Body of Christ. (Mark 16:15, 20; Ephesians 4:11-13)
- DIVINE HEALING
Divine healing is an integral part of the Gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers. (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; Mark 16:18; John 5:14)
- THE BLESSED HOPE
The resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation, together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, is imminent and is the blessed hope of the Church. (I Thessalonians 4:16, 18; Romans 8:23; Titus 2:18; I Corinthians 15:51-52)
- THE MILLENNIAL REIGN OF JESUS
The revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ from heaven, the salvation of national Israel, and millennial reign of Christ on the earth is the Scriptural promise and the world's hope. (II Thessalonians 1:7; Revelation 19:11-16; Romans 11:25, 27; 20:1-7)
- FINAL JUDGMENT
There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the Devil and his angels, the Beast and the false prophet, will be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. (Matthew 25:46; Mark 9:43-48; Revelation 19:20 ; 21:8)
- THE NEW HEAVENS AND NEW EARTH
We, "according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness." (II Peter 3:18; Revelation 21:1)

In the late 1960's, several families had moved into this area that had been members of Bethel Assembly of God in Oak Park, Illinois. At the same time a Pioneer Pastor, by the name of Rev. Howard Nelson was again trying to start a new church in the area. He had successfully launched two other churches, one in Palatine and one in Mount Prospect. In God's good time these two entities were brought together and a small group began. On June 6, 1966, Winston Churchill School in Schaumburg became the first meeting place for the church, Evangel Assembly of God. Approximately seventeen people were present at the first service.
Three acres of land were purchased in 1970 from Lancer Corporation on Plum Grove Road for the price of $36,000. Groundbreaking took place in July 1971, and construction on the original building started in June 1972.
In 1973 on Labor Day weekend Rev. Paul B. Tinlin became Evangel's first full-time pastor.
In the fall of 1976, the sanctuary was so crowded that the chapel area was expanded adding 50 percent more seating capacity. Our education building was constructed in the winter of 1976-77 for additional Sunday School classroom space. Groundbreaking for our Schaumburg church sanctuary and prayer tower took place in May 1981, and our first service there was in December 1982.
Our new church property just off the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway at Lake Street in Hanover Park was purchased in 1993. In November, 1997, the congregation of Evangel Assembly of God made the exciting but nostalgic transition of leaving our Schaumburg facility and building a much larger church to meet the needs of our congregation as they reach out to win the lost.
In August 2004, Dr. Paul and Rev. Elizabeth Tinlin retired as Pastors of Evangel after 31 years of faithful leadership and service. Rev. Ron Heitman, former Evangel Youth Pastor and Illinois District Youth Director, was consecrated as the new Lead Pastor along with his wife, Tamra and their two girls, Makenna and Matison.
The ministry of Evangel Church reaches far beyond the walls of the church building. Missions work around the world and faithful missions giving has been and will always be a strategic investment of our church. The call to take the message of Jesus to the ends of the earth continues to grow stronger. Our present church family reflects our burden for the world as the dynamic of a multi-cultural church worships together each Sunday. The family of God represented at Evangel is a visible reflection of a wonderful history of God's grace in the lives of the people who worship with us. What a wonderful spiritual journey it has been for the family of Evangel as you hear the testimonies of God's faithfulness throughout the years. God is faithful.
Since moving to Hanover Park, Evangel has provided food, clothing and other necessities on a weekly basis to hundreds of individuals and families in the community who are in need through the Hands of Hope ministry. Our church facility continues to host various community events and leadership training events in the effort to be a light to our neighbors and community leaders.
God has blessed our church throughout the years with wonderful pastoral staff and faithful leadership staff to help carry the vision of the ministries of Evangel. Our church will always be thankful and indebted to their faithful service. The passion for children and youth ministry, which has been a part of Evangel history for decades, continues to thrive as kids and students are a major investment in the aggressive youth programs of the church. Heaven will tell the full story of the countless numbers of children, young people, individuals and families that have been influenced through the history of Evangel. Discipleship, Bible studies and interactive small groups for all ages have helped men, women and children grow in their relationship with God throughout the history of Evangel as the Word of God sets the standard for godly living and the blessing of the Lord. We cherish the spiritual investment of other leaders throughout our past. Our goal longs to honor those leaders and the godly deposit they have made in our lives as we press toward the mark of growing strong leaders for God for the present and the future.
The year of 2005 was marked with steady growth as multiple people accepted Christ as their Savior and were baptized. New members were added to the Lord's Church. The Believer's Edge (Sunday School growth with a Small Group feel) was launched and grew throughout the year as people studied the Word of God together. The Wednesday night prayer service as well as multiple other prayer meetings resulted in many answers to prayer. During the back to school time of the fall months, the Lord thrust the family of Evangel into a healthy momentum as the Church engaged in 40 Days of Purpose and Rick Warren's Book, Purpose Driven Life. Right at 85% of Evangel signed commitment cards to take the journey plus the children and youth plugged in to the campaign as well. Over 40 small groups were birthed. Our Ministry Fair launched the goal of Every Believer a Leader as nearly 2/3 of the adults signed for some area of service and ministry within the church. Evangel celebrated the journey in conjunction with an incredible outreach to children by combining with the Fall Festival. Many children responded to the salvation message! God continues to be incredibly faithful to Evangel.
Evangel Church is built on a strong foundation. Our history is summarized in the gracious work of our Lord Jesus Christ and the preaching of the cross. The Bible, God's Holy Word, and the dynamic work of the Holy Spirit guides us from our rich spiritual heritage of the past into the future filled with hope that our Lord has in store for us according to His sovereign plan.
Come worship with us and let's make history for God's Kingdom together!
